Escape the heat with a disc golf weekend in Pinetop-Lakeside & Show Low

The White Mountains are blessed with fantastic weather and scenery. Cooler temperatures in August can feature 60 degree evenings and 70-85 degree days. Why not spend a weekend playing disc golf in the tall ponderosa pines, fields of blooming wildflowers, rocky fairways requiring careful planning of your fairway (and off-fairway) shots against a backdrop of puffy white clouds floating over the scenic mountains?

The active disc golf community, in collaboration with the city of Pinetop, has quietly added two fun and challenging disc golf courses that cater to both beginners and experts. The courses are well-maintained by the many volunteers and provide challenging layouts for beginners and experts alike.

Wilderness Ranch, a private course in Lakeside, is a highly rated, 4.7 on uDisc in the tall pines near Porter Mountain. The pro layout is 7541 ft but there is a short layout of 5809 ft and another long layout of 7145 ft. The owners ask for you to park at the basketball courts and pay $5 behind the basketball court. Hole 1 is behind the kiosk. Check wildernessranch.org for blackout dates.

Show Low Disc Golf Course, rated 4.4 in uDisc, features a heavily treed, but fair, 18 hole par 54 layout. The course features some elevation gains, dog-legs, blind shots and requires skillful play to score well. All holes feature concrete tee boxes.
